Contact Your School

You must contact your school to discuss applicable requirements needed as a result of your submission. This includes but is not limited to documentation or other criteria to approve the type of withdrawal or leave of absence you requested in addition to appropriate expectations for returning to school. Failure to contact your school may result in unanticipated financial and academic ramifications.

Contact Other Impacted Offices

You are responsible for contacting any office that may be affected by your decision to temporarily or permanently leave school, such as, but not limited to:

  • Your academic department
  • Columbia Housing/Residential
  • The Health Insurance Office
  • The International Student and Scholars Office
  • Student Athletics
  • Others, as applicable

Stay Up to Date

Leaving school on a temporary or permanent basis may result in communications from different offices within the University related to your time away from school. Be sure to read these in full and act upon any item that indicates further action is required. 

Notices may include, but are not limited to:

  • The Student Affairs Office or other similar advising personnel at your school
  • Your school's financial aid office
  • Columbia Housing/Residential
  • The Health Insurance Office for your Campus
  • The International Student and Scholars Office
  • Student Athletics
  • Student Financial Services (via your student statement with any applicable adjustments)
