Yellow Ribbon Program (Ch.33 GI Bill® Supplement)
The Yellow Ribbon Program, an initiative authorized by the Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 (the Post-9/11 GI Bill®), supplements the base benefits of the Post-9/11 GI Bill for students who meet the VA requirements. It can help you pay for additional school tuition and fees that the Post-9/11 GI Bill doesn’t cover.
However, this supplementary funding is not a standard dollar amount nor is it guaranteed for every eligible student who applies. Each school sets its own funding amounts and eligibility.
Review the information below for eligibility, applying for, and using this benefit.
Requirements
Participation is available only to students who qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill at the 100% benefit level according to their Certificate of Eligibility. Additional VA eligibility requirements also apply.
If you have already submitted your Certificate of Eligibility and completed your Request for Certification for your Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits, you do not need to submit these a second time for Yellow Ribbon benefits.
Students need only complete a single Veterans Request for Certification Form for each semester of attendance regardless of the number of education benefits used to pay for school.
Students must submit a new Certificate of Eligibility only if their benefits change.
Most Columbia schools participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students who have met the VA requirements above will be awarded supplementary Yellow Ribbon funding based on their school's available funds on a first-come, first-serve basis.
You must search "Columbia University" using the VA's Find a Yellow Ribbon School search tool to see the most current eligibility for each participating school.
How to Apply (by School)
Each participating school manages its own Yellow Ribbon Program application and process independently. Find your school below and follow the application instructions provided.
