On August 24, 2022, President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. Department of Education (ED) will forgive (cancel) up to $10,000 for single federal student loan borrowers making less than $125,000, or households earning less than $250,000.
The amount of student loan forgiveness is increased to a maximum of $20,000 if the eligible borrower also received a Pell Grant in any amount and at any time during college and meets the income thresholds.
NOTE: This student loan debt relief is a one-time, pandemic-related loan cancellation.
