About the 1098-T
The 1098-T statement is a federal tax form that allows a student or family member to determine eligibility for federal educational tax credits. These benefits allow taxpayers to reduce their federal income tax based upon qualified tuition and fees, and can be claimed on federal taxes by using Form 8863.
Educational institutions are required to report to students the amounts of qualified tuition expenses that were billed to them during the calendar year. This form will assist students in determining if they qualify for an educational tax credit.
